Our Story
Rome Packing Co., Inc. was founded in 1978 by Al LaGreca. At the time, the
company operated as a processor and distributor of meat, but Al was determined
to grow and expand his product line. In a leap of faith, Al decided that he could
sell his own special snail salad to the masses (which, at the time, meant the people
of Rhode Island). When the area's biggest supermarket chain at the time bought
in and placed a significant order, a new business was born and Rome Packing was
forever changed. We quickly became the largest producer and marketer of snail salad in the Northeast, a reputation we have maintained to this day. Loyal customers became hooked on Rome's Snail Salad and would ask for it by name in local supermarkets and restaurants.
Since those early days, Rome Packing has expanded its line of specialty salads to include Calamari, Octopus, Mussels, Frutti di Mare,
and much more. The salads are made fresh daily at our modern facility in East Providence, Rhode Island and shipped to stores and
restaurants all along the East Coast.
Al has been joined in the business by his three children: Adam, Allyson and Jonathan. Together with their executive chef and team of
food technologists, the Lagrecas continue to develop and produce new products that meet the flavor and convenience desires of
today's market.
In addition to our salads, the Rome product line includes a wide variety of value-added, prepared foods, such as Stuffed Clams,
Crab Cakes, Prepared Appetizers and more. We have also expanded our production capabilities and we are now one of the country's
largest primary processors of Jonah Crab. Jonah Crab is harvested from nearby North Atlantic waters and delivered directly to our plant for
processing and distribution.
As consumer demand for fresh, wholesome food increases, and retailers and foodservice operators seek ever-more efficient supply
partners, Rome Packing is prepared to meet these needs with customized products, packaging and even delivery.
